Web-based management

MeshCore browser configuration

Zero applications to install - simply launch your browser and begin. The most accessible approach to configuring MeshCore equipment.

Browser-based device management

MeshCore delivers several browser-based utilities for device configuration and operation. Depending on your firmware variant (Companion, Repeater or Room Server), you'll use config.MeshCore.dev for settings or app.MeshCore.nz as your web-based client.

The principal benefit? Zero installation required. No applications to download, no drivers to locate, no complicated preparation. Whether running Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iOS: any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, or Chromium-based alternatives) gets you operational immediately.

These web utilities prove especially valuable when quick adjustments are needed without reaching for a phone, or for repeater administrators managing screenless devices. Beginners find them ideal for exploring all available options without command-line interaction.

Web interface capabilities

🌐

Zero software required

Functions directly within modern browsers. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge - any will do. Navigate to the URL and begin configuring.

⚙️

Comprehensive settings access

Every option available at your fingertips: radio parameters, channel configuration, modules, user preferences. Whatever applications or CLI can accomplish, the web interface handles equally.

💬

Message transmission

Beyond configuration: send and receive messages directly through the browser. Ideal for rapid testing or when your phone isn't convenient.

🗺️

Network visualisation

View all network nodes displayed on a map. Useful for identifying active participants and their geographic positions. Excellent for network oversight.

📊

Node details

Access comprehensive node information: Signal strength, battery status, firmware version, last activity timestamp. Everything needed for diagnosis.

🔧

Firmware management

Update firmware directly via browser. The interface automatically detects available versions and installs them with single-click simplicity.

Available MeshCore web utilities

MeshCore provides two primary web interfaces, depending on your objective:

1. Configuration tool - config.MeshCore.dev

For configuring Repeater and Room Server firmware. Connect your device via USB and navigate to:

This utility communicates via USB serial connection, specifically designed for screenless repeaters and room servers.

2. Web client - app.MeshCore.nz

For utilising Companion firmware (devices with displays). Connect via BLE, USB or WiFi:

This web client fully substitutes for the smartphone application. Send messages, view mapped nodes, and access complete functionality.

3. Flasher - flasher.MeshCore.co.uk

For installing firmware on your device. Functions via USB within the browser, requiring no software installation:

The firmware installation guide covers this utility thoroughly. Install current firmware without command-line utilities.

Principal configuration areas

Radio parameters

Configure fundamental radio settings here:

  • Region: Select EU868 for the United Kingdom (868 MHz band)
  • Transmission power: Default 22 dBm typically suffices; increase only when genuinely necessary
  • Airtime budget: Maintain conservative levels (10-20%) to prevent network congestion

Channel parameters

Configure your communication channels:

  • LongFast preset: Standard configuration for UK MeshCore networks
  • Encryption: Channels optionally support PSK (Pre-Shared Key) protection
  • Multiple channels: Up to 8 simultaneous channels for different groups

User identity

Personalise your node identity:

  • Full name: Your complete name visible in messages (e.g. "James from Bristol")
  • Short name: Abbreviated form, maximum 4 characters (e.g. "JAME")

Module activation

Enable supplementary functionality:

  • Position module: Automatically share GPS coordinates with the network
  • Telemetry module: Broadcast battery level, temperature, and sensor data
  • Remote hardware: Permit other nodes to query sensors or control hardware

When to use web interfaces

Rapid adjustments without phone

You're at your computer needing to add a channel or modify a setting quickly. Skip the phone hunt, launch the browser, complete the change in seconds.

Remote repeater administration

Your repeater sits in the loft or atop a tall structure. Via WiFi, adjust settings remotely without physical device access.

Batch firmware updates

Managing multiple MeshCore devices, the web interface frequently proves faster than cycling through the smartphone app. Particularly efficient when updating an entire group's equipment.

Diagnostic investigation

The web interface displays detailed node statistics and Signal metrics. Invaluable when debugging connectivity issues or investigating why certain nodes cannot reach each other.

Common queries

Does the web interface work on iphone/ipad?

Absolutely. Safari on iOS fully supports the web interface. Connect via WiFi when your device shares the same network, or via Bluetooth on recent iOS versions.

Must I flash firmware first to access web interfaces?

No, the web utilities (config.MeshCore.dev and app.MeshCore.nz) function with all MeshCore firmware versions. Once your device runs MeshCore firmware, connect directly. You need only a modern browser (Chrome/Edge) and a USB cable or Bluetooth/WiFi connection.

Is the web interface less secure than the smartphone App?

Security remains comparable. USB connections are local (highly secure), whilst WiFi and Bluetooth apply identical security mechanisms as the app. Always configure an admin password if connecting via network.

Can I send messages without internet through the web interface?

Yes. The web interface communicates directly with your MeshCore device via USB, WiFi or Bluetooth. The device itself transmits messages via LoRa to other nodes. Internet connectivity is unnecessary.

Which browser performs best?

Chrome and Edge (Chromium-based) offer optimal support, particularly for Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Firefox works well over WiFi. Safari on Mac/iOS performs reliably, though occasionally exhibits Bluetooth limitations.

Can I use web interfaces with screenless devices?

Certainly. In fact, web interfaces often represent the only practical method for configuring screenless devices. Connect via USB or WiFi and gain complete control.

Begin configuring immediately

The web interface provides the quickest and simplest path to configuring MeshCore devices in the United Kingdom. No installations, no complexity - simply launch your browser and proceed. Equally suitable for beginners and experts.
