2. About LocalMesh
LocalMesh is a non-commercial community initiative without profit motive that helps people use the MeshCore network. We do not provide guaranteed services and have no Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The MeshCore network is maintained by volunteers.
Important notice: LocalMesh is intended for emergency communication and educational purposes. It is not a replacement for regular communication methods or emergency services. In emergencies, always use official channels first if available. Call 999 in an emergency.
3. Use of the Network
3.1 Permitted Use
You may use the LocalMesh network for:
- Personal communication with others on the network
- Emergency communication when regular networks fail
- Testing and experimenting with mesh network technology
- Educational purposes
3.2 Prohibited Use
It is not permitted to use the network for:
- Illegal activities or sending illegal content
- Spam, phishing or other forms of unsolicited messages
- Distributing viruses, malware or other harmful software
- Harassing, threatening or intimidating others
- Commercial purposes without prior permission
- Disrupting or sabotaging the network
- Intercepting or eavesdropping on others' communications
- Distributing hateful, discriminatory or extremist content
4. Equipment and Frequencies
As a user, you are responsible for:
- Using permitted frequencies (868 MHz in Europe, ISM band)
- Not exceeding legal transmission power limits (max 25 mW in the UK)
- Complying with all relevant telecommunications legislation
- Correctly configuring and maintaining your own equipment
5. Privacy and Security
Although the LocalMesh network uses end-to-end encryption:
- We cannot guarantee absolute security or privacy
- You are responsible for securing your own equipment
- We advise not sending sensitive information over the network
- It is important to use strong passwords and encryption keys
6. No Warranties
LocalMesh is provided "as is" without any warranty:
- Availability: We do not guarantee the network will always be available
- Coverage: Coverage depends on the number of participants and repeaters
- Reliability: Messages may be lost or arrive delayed
- Support: Support is provided on a voluntary basis, with no guaranteed response time
7. Liability
LocalMesh and its volunteers are not liable for:
- Direct or indirect damage from using the network
- Loss of data or missed messages
- Network outages or individual repeater failures
- Damage to equipment
- Actions of other users
- Problems when used in emergency situations
Important for emergencies:
LocalMesh is an experimental community initiative and not a professional emergency service. Never rely solely on LocalMesh in life-threatening situations. Always call 999 first if possible.
8. Placing Repeaters
If you place a repeater:
- The repeater remains your property and responsibility
- You are responsible for electricity and internet costs (if applicable)
- You must have permission from the property owner
- You are responsible for safe installation (no risk of falling, fire, etc.)
- You may remove or take the repeater offline at any time
9. Intellectual Property
The content on this website (texts, images, logos) is the property of LocalMesh, unless otherwise indicated. You may share and use this content for non-commercial purposes, with attribution.
MeshCore is the property of the creators of the MeshCore protocol. LocalMesh is an independent initiative with no commercial ties to MeshCore.
10. Contributing to the Community
If you contribute to LocalMesh (for example through guides, code, or documentation):
- You retain copyright on your contribution
- You give LocalMesh permission to share your contribution with the community
- Your name remains credited as author (unless you request anonymity)
11. Changes
LocalMesh reserves the right to:
- Modify these terms at any time
- Adjust or discontinue services
- Exclude users who violate these terms
Significant changes will be announced via the website and newsletter.
12. Disputes and Applicable Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. In case of disputes, we will first seek a mutual resolution. If that fails, the dispute may be submitted to the competent court in the United Kingdom.
